Debbie Poslosky

Debbie Poslosky was a proud Parkway graduate and dedicated Parkway educator for 30 years. She began her career as a teacher at Henry Elementary. After taking several years away from the classroom to raise her children, she returned to Parkway to teach fourth and fifth grade at Shenandoah Valley and Mason Ridge. Her passion for teaching and commitment to continuous growth led her to become a Literacy Coach and later an Instructional Coach at Mason Ridge. She concluded her career as an Instructional Coach at Craig Elementary.

Known to her students as Mrs. Poz, Debbie was passionate about removing barriers so every child could fully access learning. As both a classroom teacher and instructional coach, she embraced innovative practices, piloted new ideas, and never stopped searching for better ways to meet the needs of students.. It was not uncommon for former students to come

back years later and tell Debbie that she was the first teacher who truly understood and championed them. She believed that every child deserved an educator who saw their strengths, understood their challenges, and refused to give up on them.

Debbie was a lifelong learner who continually sought new knowledge, always reading, reflecting, and growing so she could better serve children. She shared her learning generously, leading professional development across the district and inspiring fellow educators to embrace new ideas. Above all, she believed deeply in the brilliance of teachers. One of her greatest gifts was helping educators recognize their own potential to change lives. She encouraged others to take thoughtful risks, trust their professional judgment, and pursue innovative approaches that would make learning more meaningful for students.

The Debbie Poslosky Grant honors her legacy by supporting Parkway educators who share that same spirit of innovation, courage, and unwavering commitment to children. The grant is awarded to educators who are willing to think creatively, take thoughtful risks, and develop meaningful solutions that help students overcome barriers to learning. In doing so, we celebrate Debbie's enduring belief that every child matters, every educator has the power to make a difference, and innovation in service of students can transform lives.

Description of the Grant

This grant is designed to empower Parkway and Special School District educators (Pre-K–12) to eliminate barriers to student learning. Funding directly supports innovative, impactful, and accessible classroom solutions, including but not limited to:
  • Learning Tools: Interactive technology, specialized equipment, adaptive devices, and hands-on materials that make complex concepts accessible to every student.
  • Enriching Experiences: Field trips, guest speakers, experiential workshops, and real-world projects that ignite curiosity and connect learning beyond the classroom.
  • Essential Resources: Diverse reading materials, curriculum supplements, specialized learning kits, and foundational supplies tailored to individual student needs.
  • Educator Learning: Specialized training, professional development, and collaborative workshops that equip teachers with advanced strategies to better support diverse learners.
  • Social-Emotional Support: Calming corner tools, mindfulness programs, self-regulation materials, and wellness resources that foster emotional well-being and readiness to learn.
